I wish to take a stand for…

Last week Jamie Ridler posed the wishcasting Wednesday question: What do you wish to take a stand for?

As I was thinking about what I wanted to take a stand for this week, my mind wandered to things grand and noble. Today before I had a chance to put my thoughts to paper (or more accurately computer screen) I received a link to this thought provoking infographic: Sitting is Killing You.

I work at my computer every day, and as an active person I get very tired of this sedentary work. I am lucky to have a lean body, and have not had to worry too much about weight gain, but when you check out this infographic the statistics are quite frightening.

I grew-up before computers were household items, or on every desk in the work place. I love what technology has brought to my world. I love that I have this way to work in the world, and I have all kinds of anything at our fingertips. But my body needs to move to be happy, too.

I take a stand for standing and moving.

Even if you work at your computer many hours a day, try to create a habit of getting up frequently to stretch and move. You will feel so much better, and your mind and body will be healthier for it.

Jamie Ridler, who posed this wishcasting question, introduced me to dancing. Not that I hadn’t danced before, but I never thought of dancing as something to stand up and do any time. But guess what, when I only have a few minutes here and there, I have found it to be the most uplifting break from sitting at the computer.

I take a stand for dancing like no one is watching,
‘cuz they probably aren’t.

Open a new tab in your computer to You Tube, search for your favorite song, crank it up and move. Computers are wonderful because they give you the music you need to dance, too. And I’ll bet you’ll feel much better from the movement!

If you need some inspiration to get started here is one of my current favorites:

Oh my gosh, I LOVE this! I saw a similar campaign against sitting just a little while ago and it REALLY has lit a fire under me. Like you, I work at a desk. Have for over 35 years! Now that I’m a woman of a certain age (*ahem*), I can honestly say that all this sitting feels like its KILLING me!! It’s one of the main reasons why I want to completely change up my career, as I’ve been blogging about recently.

THANK YOU for this added incentive.

As you wish for yourself, I wish for you as well.

  4. Wonderful, fantastic, I am taking a stand too!!

I actually laughed out loud at the “dancing like no one is watching,
    ‘cuz they probably aren’t.” 😀
